According to The Price of Technical Debt, 87% of SAP ERP HCM customers maintain legacy or backup systems alongside their primary platform, while only 10% rely fully on their primary system. The report also found that only 30% of leaders are very confident their current systems can support growth over the next three to five years. Among organizations operating fully cloud-based workforce environments, that figure rises to 49%.

The Economic Validation study projected a 13% lower five-year cost of implementation with SAP SuccessFactors, compared with maintaining an on-premise environment. It also found that SAP SuccessFactors could improve HR operational efficiency by 58%, enabling HR teams to support larger employee populations through automation, self-service capabilities, and streamlined processes.
Organizations interviewed as part of the study also reported improved business agility, faster access to workforce information, and easier adoption of innovation through SAP's SuccessFactors cloud delivery model.

The Price of Technical Debt found that organizations operating fully cloud-based workforce environments are more than twice as likely to report being fully ready to adopt AI, demonstrating a higher readiness for innovative workforce management solutions compared with organizations operating hybrid or on-premise environments.
While AI is often discussed as a future initiative, the findings suggest that readiness starts with modern workforce foundations, which include trusted data, simplified processes, and connected systems.
